How to recover VET sent using Binance Smart Chain (BSC)

29

VET is the native coin of the VechainThor blockchain. Recently Binance has opened a bridge that allows you to bridge your VET to the Binance Smart Chain, and use VET as a BEP-20 token on the BSC network.

While blockchain interoperability is a great thing that will help boost the adoption of the Vechain blockchain, it can be confusing to new users who have no clear understanding of how blockchains work, resulting in the user sending VET using the wrong blockchain.

Withdrawing VET on Binance

On Binance go to Wallet > Fiat and Spot and search for VET. Here you can select VET to withdraw and the following screen shows up.

When withdrawing Vechain from Binance, you can select on which network to withdraw your VET.

Only use the BSC option if you want to use Vechain on the Binance Smart Chain and you are sure that your wallet supports BSC, when in doubt, always send a small transaction first to test things.

Unfortunately, not everyone is careful, resulting in people sending VET on BSC (BEP-20) to a Vechain wallet that does not support Binance Smart Chain (BSC). If this has happened to you, don’t worry, in this guide, we will help you to recover your VET!

[fruitful_alert color=”alert-danger”]Warning, never ever reply to private messages on social media of people offering you help. These are scammers that will steal all your coins. Vechain staff and support team will never ever contact you in private. Stay safe, you will be targeted[/fruitful_alert]

Recover VET (BEP-20) that has been sent to a Vechain wallet.

If you sent VET using the Binance chain network to your Vechain wallet, your coins will not arrive, since the Vechain wallet only supports the Vechain blockchain. Take the following steps to recover your VET and get access to them, or watch the video tutorial:

Step 1: Download Trust Wallet

Download Trust Wallet (https://trustwallet.com), a popular crypto wallet used by over 25 million people, we will need it in the next steps. It is available for iOS as well as Android.

Once downloaded, open the app and go to the next step

Step 2: Import your Vechain address

When you created your Vechain wallet, it asked you to create a backup phrase, we will need these twelve words, often called a mnemonic phrase, in this step.

In Trust Wallet click on I already have a wallet > accept the user license and set a passcode to protect your Trust Wallet.

On Import select Smart Chain and import your 12 words, you should get a “your wallet was successfully imported” message.

Step 3: Add Wrapped VET (BEP-20) to your wallet

Now your wallet is import, on the top right of your screen click on the settings button and from here select “Add Custom Token”.

Add the following token details to Trust Wallet:

Contract Address: 0x6FDcdfef7c496407cCb0cEC90f9C5Aaa1Cc8D888
Name: Vechain
Symbol: VET
Decimals: 18

You can confirm this is the official VET contract on BSC by visiting coinmarketcap (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/vechain)

Step 4: Done

If done correctly, you should now have access to your VET tokens again, using Trust Wallet, you can send them back to Binance if you want. When transferring your BEP-20 VET back, make sure you select BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) as the network

It is best to move your VET back to Binance so it gets converted into regular VET, because when you hold BEP-20 VET you will not generate VTHO!

  1. Hey, this is a great article and extremely useful indeed. Had the same issue and reached up till step 4. However, for some reason it doesn’t really work when it’s about importing a wallet which comes from VeChain Ledger Sync and it still keeps me at “This is a watch-only wallet”, eventhough I provided my 24 mnemonic phrases which effectively means I exposed my entire Ledger Nano S (this is how important it was to me!(. I just submitted a ticket to Trust and asked them how to verify that it is indeed me who owns the account. But if you happen to know how is best to handle this with a Sync Ledger wallet, will be fantastic…

  2. Hi Radt,
Did you manage to find a solution?
I have made this mistake myself unfortunately.
I feel Binance needs to be a lot more clear when withdrawing VET.

  3. PROBLEM:

I send VET from my metamask (BSC Network) to the regular Vetchain wallet (wanted to stalk for VTHO). Alas the VET never showed up: its on different networks. I tried using method above and it didn’t worked.

    SOLUTION:
    1. I took my VET account’s mnemonics, then went here: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/#english ; I generated Private key based on the last BIP44 Transaction.

    2. I took my private key for Vet account and added into Metamask as a new account. Then I added BSC Network and VET (BEP-20) (as per step 3 above). DONE! I saw my VET.

    3. I added BNB to that account, and then moved my VET (BEP-20) back to my original account. Done! restored my balance on original account.

  4. Hello so my D’CENT wallet has a bep/vet wallet and I sent vet to that wallet but it never arrived. I see it on the blockchain but not in my wallet. On these directions to get your vet back you say you need the seed phrase but what one? Will I need my seed for my D’CENT? I’m confused as to how to get it back.

  10. Hello,

I sent VET from Binance to Bitrue, however, I chose the BSC instead of the VET blockchain when I sent it. Bitrue does not use the BSC network. I am looking for some help. Thanks in advance.
